Kindle Fire

Standard

Sad day. I ended up cancelling my Kindle Fire pre-order because I’m not going to have the $200 on 11/15. Hopefully I’ll be placing a new order on 11/18, but I’ll probably be buying a bridesmaid dress, instead.

Adult behavior sucks.

Vintage Kitchenware

Standard

I started out the morning relatively sane. You know, for me. I went to my step-mom’s house to pick her up so we could go to lunch. While we were getting ready to leave, it occurred to me that I should ask her if I could borrow a cake tin. She immediately offered up the gorgeous aqua/copper cake tin shown below.

We had a delicious lunch at Chaz on the Plaza and then I introduced her to the glory and wonder that is Trader Joe’s.

Afterwards, as we were saying our goodbyes in her garage, I spotted her stacking cookie tin and asked if I could borrow it in a few weeks. As I wistfully said I wished I could find something like it, she got a crazy gleam in her eye and said she would try to find one for my Christmas present.

I immediately went home to start searching google to see how hard it would be to find.

People, I can’t find the damned thing ANYWHERE. It’s not mentioned on vintage sites, doesn’t come up in eBay or Etsy. I suspect she’s going to have a hard time finding one.

In the course of my multi-hour search (I may have gotten distracted a few times), I realized something.

I would love to have a mostly vintage kitchen. I like the mid-century aesthetic, dig the colors and find that the bakeware is of higher quality than what we have available now.

I now want a cake tin of my own, the cookie tin, a grease jar, a range set (containing salt, pepper, sugar and flour) and more Pyrex. I always want more Pyrex.

The Garden Song

Standard

This is for my sister. I would have uploaded the version we both grew up with, but I have to pay extra to wordpress for music files and that seems silly for what may be a one-time wish.

Anyways.

My parents were a few years too late to be hippies and a few years too early to be yuppies, so my sister and I grew up in this odd in-between culture.

We had a rather odd exposure to music and one of the many genres we were introduced to at young ages was folk music. Arlo Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Peter, Paul & Mary kept us entertained and kept us singing.

One of the first concerts I remember was Peter, Paul and Mary. A few years go, Mom took me to see Arlo Guthrie when he was at the Carlsen Center. I love the fact that folk music has remained in my life, even though it’s not a primary genre for me anymore.

To my point: this used to be my sister’s favorite song. Enjoy, kiddo.

If you are interested in hearing the version I grew up with, pick up a copy of Precious Friend from Amazon (or iTunes or your local independent music store, if such a beast still exists where you live).

Music + Dating = ???

Standard

Some people think that the music you listen to says something about your dating style.

I’ve reviewed the two lists of musicians and of them, I have at least once song from the following artists on my computer/phone:

Beastie Boys
The Ramones
My Chemical Romance
Talking Heads
Stevie Wonder
R.E.M.
No Doubt
Nirvana
The Strokes
The White Stripes
The Clash
The Cure
Beyonce
Britney Spears
Eminem
The Beatles
Queen
Oasis
Daft Punk
Bob Seger
Billy Joel
Green Day
Weezer
U2
Sinatra
Madonna
Lady Gaga

What about you? Who do you have on the list(s)? Do you agree with the dating styles?

I…have a hard time arguing with most of them.

Odds and Ends

Just a few links I’ve come across lately that I meant to post and haven’t.

Best Owl Ever! Seriously, I think this owl just beat out Hedwig as my favorite owl.

Yes, I have such things as a favorite owl.

When even someone in Wall Street is saying “the system is ‘fuck the poor'”, it might be time to take a look at how we are managing our finances as a country.

I’ve been spending a lot of time cracking out on Tumblr lately, and one of the things I’ve come across is the We Are the 99 Percent blog. Some of the pictures make me want to roll my eyes and some make me sad to realize what so many people in our country are coming up against and the realization that I’m perhaps a bad day or two away from joining them.

I’m including this link about spiders for my mom.

I went to go visit her tonight and she just had to point out the spider that was dangling from my car. Rude. Better than my most memorable spider experience at her home, which resulted in my jumping out of the shower with shampoo in my hair because I realized that the dark spot on the shower floor was a spider and not my washrag.

What? I’m blind.

I have learned my lesson and Never! Ever! get into the shower without checking it for spiders anymore. 15 years later and I STILL make a shower spider check before hopping in.

To reward you for making it this far, I give you Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles at Torontocon. I want to pet Jared’s hair, for it is glorious in the pictures I’ve seen from this con. I have other plans for what I’d like to do to Jensen…
