Yarn Harlot

I got to go see the Yarn Harlot last night! She came to KC on her book tour for Free Range Knitter: The Yarn Harlot Writes Again.

I went with my friend Amanda. We met up early to get dinner and beer and then drove over to Unity Temple on the Plaza where the event was being held. We were the first ones in the door! Such nerds, I know. 😉

We sat around and (what else?) knitted. Finally the gave us our books and let us in the auditorium (I’m sure there is a more church-word for this room). After snagging seats in the front row, I sat on the edge of the stage and watched the knitters flow in. It was so cool to see the place fill up with a ton of people and yarn.

When Stephanie started speaking, she was very nervous, but it was endearing. She was, quite naturally, hilarious. I even got to ask her a question–how is Joe’s sweater coming along? Apparently it’s in timeout. Hm.

After the speech, thanks to Amanda’s forethought, we were in the first group of people who got their books signed. Thanks to my wanting to be at Unity an hour and a half before the event started, we also were the first two people in line! That whole front row thing had all SORTS of benefits!

Amanda got a picture of me giving Stephanie her beer. She signed my book and complimented my clapotis. I then took a picture of Amanda giving her beer to Stephanie and we left.

It was a very fun evening and I hope I get to see Stephanie speak again someday.

  1. Ha! There y’all are!! Right on that front row! Sure wish I could have been there; I’m surprised it wasn’t more full. Are you more motivated to knit, now that you’ve heard the Michael Jordan of Knitters speak?
