Election Thoughts

I’ve been struggling the past few days, which shouldn’t be a surprise to most people who know me. I’m a liberal feminist who believes in a safety net for the less fortunate and dignity and respect for the marginalized. I have loved ones who will be adversely affected by the changes we can expect over the next few years. I don’t think I’m being dramatic when I say that I am worried that not all of the people I love will survive–my POC friends, my LGBTQIA friends, and all the women I know of child-bearing age.

I live in Kansas, where 57% of voters cast their ballots for Trump. I know that people I care about and trust voted for someone who will do his best to ensure that other people I care about and trust will be persecuted. I’m having a hard time coming to terms with this fact.

If you see someone who needs help, please lend them a hand. If you have a few extra dollars, I recommend tossing them at the ACLU, Southern Poverty Law Center, The Trevor Project, and Planned Parenthood.
